We are excited to start the COVID-19 vaccine consent process for our Assisted Living and Memory Care residents. While we do not yet have the vaccine, we need to be prepared when we do receive it. The CDC states that the vaccination will be an important tool in stopping the spread of COVID-19.

The CDC and preponderance of physicians and scientists strongly recommend that all Americans, particularly those considered high risk, take the vaccine. We are hopeful that all residents and employees at each of our Community Senior Life locations will heed this advice and receive the COVID-19 vaccination.

The pandemic has been extremely stressful for our residents, resident family members, and staff. The vaccine will provide a safer way to help build immunization for protection against COVID-19. In order to better understand the vaccine, we have excerpted some information from the CDC website that might answer some of your questions.

1. Is the Vaccine Safe?

COVID-19 vaccine has been tested in large clinical trials to make sure they meet the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) safety standards.

2. What Are the Side Effects of the Vaccine?

Most people do not have serious problems after being vaccinated. However, your arm may get sore, red, or warm to the touch, and you may get a headache or fever. If one does get a headache or fever that means that your immune system is building up protection to the disease.

3. How Many Doses are Needed?

The COVID-19 vaccination will require 2 shots. The first shot will start your body to build up protection against the virus, but one will need to get the 2nd shot. The 2nd shot offers the most protection against the virus.

4. Will the Residents or Employees Have to Pay for the Vaccine?

There will be no out-of-pocket expense to receive the vaccine. The vaccine is paid for by taxpayer funding. There may be a fee for administration of the vaccine by the provider giving the vaccine, but that would be covered either by insurance or Health Resources and Services Administration’s Provider Relief Fund.

If you did not receive an email or consent form or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact our corporate office or your community’s Executive Director. We appreciate all you are doing to help us stay safe and healthy as we weather this pandemic.
